The Army Records Society was founded in 1984 and is a not-for-profit organisation with charitable status. The constitution adopted in November 2002 states that the object of the Army Records Society is to edit and publish manuscripts relating to the Army and to reprint works of military interest.
In this context ‘British Army’ covers a wide time period from c. 1660 onwards and we are interested in volumes concerning Colonial and Dominion Forces, what might be termed the ‘British Imperial Army’ as well as the British Army as raised in the British Isles. Our constitution can be found here.
Every year we plan to publish at least one volume of documents, based on primary sources (the effects of the COVID pandemic have led to a slight delay in our publications programme, but we plan to ‘catch up’ with a double volume year soon).
We welcome proposals for new volumes and these should be raised with the Secretary or Chairman in the first instance. The Society is run by a Council made up of people with academic and military backgrounds.
The Society is governed by its voluntary Councillors who are elected at the Annual General Meetings but the business of the Society is conducted by its Officers.
